Toni Lucas

Born in Sydney, and moved to the Gold Coast 45 years ago. No formal training, but I always loved drawing as a child and started painting 35 years ago, about the same time as I trained as a florist.

I began using oils, the acrylics, taking classes with various artists and doing workshops to explore different techniques and styles. Later I decided to try watercolours which I love, also pastels, charcoal and graphite.

Light is what excites me, and a variety of mediums, subjects and details! I have won many prizes and sold many artworks over the years, and love that my style is different to other artists.... many people feel as if they can walk into my paintings, which makes me happy!

I have been a member of RQAS (Royal QLD Art Society) at Broadbeach for many years and for the last 3 years have been attending a weekly group run by Don Waters at Beenleigh for discussions and demonstrations, which I find very stimulating.

My most recent achievement wa 2 High Commended Awards at the Runaway Bay Rotary Art Fair in March, and previously winning the President's Packing Room Prize at the Burleigh Heads Rotary Art Show 2019, People's Choice Awards for the months of November 2018 and Feruary 2019 as well as 2nd place in December/January 2019 at RQAS at Broadbeach. I entered paintings in the Lions' Club Art Extravaganza in 2018 and 2019 at Westfield Coomera and Westfield Garden City, and sold there each year.

I was an Artist in residence for 3 years in a row at the d'Arcy Doyle Awards at Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast, and Featured Artist for February 2020 at Riot Art Store in Westfield, Helensvale. My Artworks have been used for advertising for St Hilda's Art Show, Southport, in 2019 and Runaway Bay Rotary Art Show in 2020, and Featured Artist at Burleigh Heads Rotary Art Show in 2019.

I have donated and auctioned works for Drought Relief and Bushfire Appeals and other charities.

As I live on the Gold Coast, a lot of my paintings feature a mix of the beaches, the rainforests and the country in between. I love realism and details, and love to work with light; I treat every work as a challenge, to transfer what I see in my head or with my eyes onto the support I'm using. I do welcome commissions too, and keep my client informed of my progress as I work on, so that it is a pain free experience!

My work is hanging in many homes around the world, including Canada, UK, Japan, France, Greece, China and New Zealand, as well as many places around Australia. It's always interesting to know where my works go when they sell!
